Uncategorized2 Comments

Have you ever had chiropractic (or other modality) done on you or your horse and it doesn’t work?

Or sometimes it helps and sometimes not so much?

Well, there’s reasons for that. And one reason is discussed in this episode of Horse Mysteries Solved.

The reason is there’s over 100+ types of chiropractic alone! How can you tell if you’ve got the correct one for you?

We talk about this and even how to objectively tell if your therapy is working or not.

Dr. Renee Tucker discusses why chiropractic treatment sometimes fails to work effectively. She highlights that there are over 100 different chiropractic techniques, but practitioners usually specialize in a few that work best for them. Tucker advises that if chiropractic treatment causes pain, soreness, or doesn’t yield results, it might be beneficial to try a different practitioner with a different technique. She also promotes her book “Where Does My Horse Hurt,” which provides detailed check-ups for different joints, allowing horse owners to assess the effectiveness of treatments and track improvements.

Speaker 1 (00:01)
Hello. Hello, my friend. This is Dr. Renee Tucker. I just want to tell you real quick about why chiropractic sometimes doesn’t work.

Speaker 1 (00:10)
Okay? Now, I am certified in chiropractic and after vet school weren’t there. And believe it or not, graduated from chiropractic animal certification in a while. So I know how to do it. Okay.

Speaker 1 (00:26)
But what’s important here is that sometimes I ask people, have you ever gone to a chiropractor? And they get this look on their face, kind of like they know I know about chiropractic. And they went but they hated it. So they don’t want to tell me. I can tell by their faces.

Speaker 1 (00:44)
They’re like, what do I stay? So listen, I totally get that. And here’s the thing that I wish chiropractors would tell you, and it’s this. Okay? There is over 100 different entire techniques of chiropractic.

Speaker 1 (01:03)
Over 100. Okay, so then every human chiropractic school, that’s a four year school, and they only teach about 2025 of them in that school. Okay. So then students go through and they got 20 to 25 total techniques that they know how to do, but they’ll choose what works really good for them. And you have to you can’t do everything.

Speaker 1 (01:30)
So people choose depending on their weight, their hand size, height, all that kind of things and what equipment they want to use, all that stuff. So a lot of chiropractors have, at least for people have a handful of really developed skill and chiropractic, but they don’t tell you that. They tell you they’re doing chiropractic. They are. But if it hurt, that’s not right.

Speaker 1 (01:58)
And if you’re sore for weeks, that’s not right. If I didn’t help you at all, that’s also not right. And Unfortunately, I don’t know why this is, but a lot of chiropractors will say, well, I just need you to come back three times a week for three years and then continuously on and on until your problem is solved. But the thing is, and this is what I wish they had mentioned, is that they should just tell you, look, I do X, Y, and Z techniques. We’ll try it a few times.

Speaker 1 (02:30)
If your body doesn’t like it, hey, my friend down the street does a whole bunch of different chiropractic techniques that might work better for you. That would be really nice because what happens is people come out of chiropractor’s office, and if it’s not working for you, you think all chiropractic is just going to be bad. And it’s really not. There’s so many different techniques because there are so many different ways people’s bodies respond. So if you do have a chiropractor and it’s not working either for you or for your horse, I do recommend maybe try another one.

Speaker 1 (03:02)
Please make sure they’re certified so they do know what they’re doing. And that would be super helpful. Now, I don’t do regular chiropractic anymore. I have gone ahead and morphed into doing energy work. I find it works more effectively and for every horse and it finds that primary cause, like I mentioned a lot, but one thing you can do if you have a chiropractor or massage person or whatever therapist you have is I do have the where does my horse hurt book.

Speaker 1 (03:34)
You might have heard of it. It’s online. It’s for sale everywhere. Barnes and Noble, Amazon horse rider books, all those guys have it. Anyway.

Speaker 1 (03:45)
I have 27 check ups for the horse. I call them check ups Because you check every joint in the horse’s body, Show you how to do it. Nice pictures, step by step, very straightforward and as easy as possible. And then here’s the thing. Okay, let’s just say, you know, the sacroiliac check up and your horse maybe has a sacroiliac problem, then you can do the sacral iliac check up and you’re like, oh, I don’t feel any movement here.

Speaker 1 (04:19)
I’m not sure if I’m doing it right or wrong, but that’s what I got right now. Then you call over Joe the chiropractor who says, oh, yes, definitely, I’ve got a chiropractor problem. Let me fix that for you. And then they fix your horses sacred joint and you do the check up later on like, oh, wow, look, it is moving. I get it now.

Speaker 1 (04:38)
Before it was stuck and stiff and now I can feel it moving. And that is such a powerful thing to have for yourself. So, you know, whatever therapy you choose to have done for your horse, if it’s working or not, Based on whether or not the checkups change okay, in the same manner you can Hock the Atlas, the shoulders. We have things for every joint. You can even do this before and after joint injections.

Speaker 1 (05:09)
You know, if your joint injections are supposed to loosen up the joint, you should be able to feel it. And also, how long does it last? When does your horse need new joint injections? If they do it all, Then you can feel them with your hands, with the horse just standing there usually before you can feel it, when you’re that’s just a suggestion. You can take a look at that.

Speaker 1 (05:34)
I think that’s it. But please send me any of your questions you have for this podcast And I’ll hopefully get to them pretty soon. Okay. Thanks for listening. Bye.

  1. Just finished your podcast n why chiropractic doesn’t always work. Thank you!
You mentioned you are doing more energy work- could you tell me a bit more, please?
I’m 80 and care for 4 horses , also older so maybe this would be good to learn?
Thanks – I love what you do with helping horses.

    1. Hi Lynn,
I’m glad you enjoyed the episode. Yes, I’ve developed an energy technique called Tucker BioKinetic There’s lots of info about it on the website: http://www.tuckerbiokinetic.com

We have many senior students (as well as horses :)) so you are welcome to apply. Our prerequisite course starts with learning to ask yes/no questions of the energy field. You could start there and see if it is something you like.

      Warm regards,
      Renee Tucker, DVM
