Any type of lateral work requires your horse's body to be agile and flexible. Lateral work includes renvers, shoulder in, sidepass, pole bending, barrel racing, reining...and more! A lot of horse movements include some "lateral work" without us thinking about it.

What if your horse can't seem to do lateral work at all? Or maybe fairly well in only one direction?

The most common causes of lateral work difficulty are:

  1. Chiropractic issues (C7, thoracic, ribs, lumbar, sacrum)
    • See the Body Checkup videos for these issues here
  2. Saddle fit
  3. Tendon or ligaments (rear suspensory)
  4. Nutrition (selenium)

There's always an answer.  Good luck on your journey!
